Grape origin
Morcote, Ticino.
DOC Castello di Morcote organically certified and biodinamically managed vineyards, terraces with a 30-35% slope, vines approx. 35 years old. Loose soil resting on rose porphiry, a volcanic quartzite peculiar to the promontory of Arbostora. Microclimate generated by the thermal winds blowing on the lake. Altitude between 400 and 500 metres above sea level.
Vinification and ageing
The first pressing is obtained from Merlot grapes through very gentle pressing, to prevent the extraction of colour. Fermentation and ageing take place in French oak barriques, partly new and partly of second and third passage.
The Chardonnay component, which ferments separately partly in wood and partly in amphorae, is added to the base wine in the barriques only once fermentation is complete.
After around 8 months of ageing, during which repeated bâtonnages are carried out, the wine reaches its optimal complexity and is then bottled.
Tasting notes
Very delicate straw-yellow colour.
The nose displays lovely complexity. Initially, delicate aromas of white flowers are perceived, followed by hints of tropical fruit and white-fleshed fruit, accompanied by hints of vanilla.
On the palate, the aromas perceived on the nose reappear, followed by notes of custard and hints of flint.
The high proportion of Chardonnay lends the wine lovely freshness and length on the palate.
This wine is well-structured thanks to its long period of ageing in oak, which allows it to achieve the perfect balance between acidity and body. Pronounced savouriness and acidity are complemented by the creaminess acquired through ageing on the fine lees.
Thanks to its charm and structure, this historic white wine from the estate is always capable of ageing beautifully for many years.
